Where Is Your Feng Shui Wealth Corner? 4 Traditional Methods Explained

According to traditional Feng Shui, there are several ways to identify a home's wealth area (Wealth Corner). Different methods are used for different purposes, and each represents a traditional approach to enhancing prosperity.

1. Prosperous Energy Direction (Current Prosperity Wealth Area)

According to the traditional Period 8 (2004–2023) Feng Shui cycle, the Northeast was regarded as the direction of prosperous energy.

The Northeast was considered the primary auspicious direction during this period. Traditional Feng Shui teaches that when a home's overall energy is strong, prosperity and career success are more likely to flourish.

2. Annual Wealth Direction

Traditional Feng Shui also identifies a yearly Wealth God direction, which changes each year according to the Heavenly Stems of the Chinese calendar.

The traditional directions are:

  • Jia (甲) and Yi (乙): Northeast
  • Bing (丙) and Ding (丁): West
  • Wu (戊) and Ji (己): North
  • Geng (庚) and Xin (辛): East
  • Ren (壬) and Gui (癸): South

This annual wealth direction is traditionally calculated before the Lunar New Year. Traditional Feng Shui also recommends avoiding time periods that conflict with the Wealth God direction when arranging this area.

3. Fixed Wealth Corner

If the current prosperity area or annual wealth area cannot be used because it is missing, occupied, or otherwise unsuitable, traditional Feng Shui recommends using the Fixed Wealth Corner.

According to traditional practice, the Fixed Wealth Corner is located at the diagonal corner opposite the main entrance.

This area is commonly used for wealth-enhancing arrangements. Traditional decorations include:

  • Large leafy plants
  • Wealth-attracting Feng Shui ornaments

4. Personal Wealth Direction

Traditional Feng Shui teaches that everyone has a personal wealth direction based on their BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny).

Unlike the previous three methods, which relate to the home as a whole, the Personal Wealth Direction is believed to affect an individual's personal financial luck.

To determine this direction, a person's birth year, month, day, and hour are traditionally converted into a BaZi chart.

According to traditional rules:

  • People born on Jia (甲) or Yi (乙) Heavenly Stem: Wealth direction is West
  • People born on Bing (丙) or Ding (丁): Wealth direction is West
  • People born on Wu (戊) or Ji (己): Wealth direction is North
  • People born on Geng (庚) or Xin (辛): Wealth direction is East
  • People born on Ren (壬) or Gui (癸): Wealth direction is South

After identifying the Personal Wealth Direction, traditional Feng Shui recommends keeping this area clean and avoiding missing corners or structural interruptions.

If several wealth directions overlap in the same location, traditional Feng Shui considers this especially favorable.

If the wealth area falls where a doorway, window, or missing corner is located, traditional practice suggests making adjustments to improve the layout.

Traditional Feng Shui also teaches that some people may have wealth-related elements that conflict with their personal BaZi chart. In such cases, practitioners often seek guidance from an experienced Feng Shui consultant.

In addition, some people traditionally wear wealth-related symbolic items, such as:

  • Tai Sui protective charms
  • Five Emperor Coins
  • Jade money pouches
  • Pixiu
  • Jade cabbage ornaments

These items are traditionally believed to symbolize prosperity and financial blessings.

According to traditional Feng Shui, the Southwest was regarded as a declining energy sector during the Period 8 cycle. Some traditions recommend placing an aquarium, Feng Shui wheel, or other symbolic Feng Shui items in this area.
