Feng Shui Money Toad Placement Guide: How to Use a Three-Legged Money Frog for Wealth and Prosperity

The Money Toad (Jin Chan) is considered one of the most popular Feng Shui tools for attracting wealth. It has three legs, bears the image of the Big Dipper on its back, holds strings of coins in its mouth, and has the Taiji symbol on the top of its head.

It is especially considered suitable for speculative investments, such as lotteries, stocks, and gambling-related activities.

How to Place a Money Toad

Money Toads are generally divided into two types:

1. Money Toad Holding Coins in Its Mouth

When placing a Money Toad that holds coins in its mouth, its head should face toward the interior of the shop, company, or home.

It should not face outward toward the entrance of a shop, company, or house. Otherwise, the wealth it symbolizes is believed to flow out rather than remain inside, making it ineffective for attracting wealth.

2. Money Toad Without Coins in Its Mouth

For a Money Toad without coins in its mouth, the placement is the opposite.

Its head should face toward the entrance of the shop, company, or house, symbolizing the act of drawing wealth inward.

However, when facing the entrance, it should not point directly at the main door. Instead, it should be placed slightly to one side to avoid directly confronting the doorway.

Many Feng Shui practitioners place importance on the first time a Money Toad is used.

Traditionally, the hours between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. are considered especially favorable, as this period is known as the Dragon Hour (Chen Hour) and is regarded as an auspicious time of the day.

If the Money Toad has undergone a blessing or consecration ritual, choosing an auspicious time for its first placement is considered beneficial. It is traditionally recommended to complete the installation or placement during the Dragon Hour.

When wearing or placing a Money Toad, one should maintain a respectful attitude, wash one's hands and face, clean the surface where it will be placed, and silently make one's wishes before placing it.

In addition to whether the Money Toad holds coins or not, it is also considered best to determine the owner's wealth position according to personal Feng Shui principles and place the Money Toad there for better results.

Unlike Buddha statues, the Money Toad does not require incense offerings. Fresh fruit and clean water are considered sufficient. On the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, fresh water and fruit are traditionally replaced.

Placement Guidelines

1.

Except for family members, it is traditionally recommended not to allow outsiders to touch or play with the Money Toad, as this is believed to affect its spiritual energy.

2.

A Money Toad should not be placed beneath beams.

3.

Pixiu, Money Toads, and other wealth-attracting Feng Shui items should not face fish tanks or fish-shaped decorations, as this is believed to symbolize wealth turning into water and flowing away.

4.

A Money Toad should not face statues of Buddhas, Guanyin, or other deities, nor should it be placed higher than these sacred images.

5.

A Money Toad should never face a bathroom or be placed next to one, except for specific Feng Shui remedies designed for bathroom-related Feng Shui concerns.
