Achi Chokyi Drolma is the full name of Achi Buddha Mother. She is the unique Dharma Protector of the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. The name Achi means “great-grandmother,” because she was the great-grandmother of Jigten Sumgön, the founder of the Drikung Kagyu tradition. Chokyi Drolma means “Dharma Tara.”
The Drikung Kagyu tradition regards her as one of the great protectors of the Buddha’s teachings. She is considered a manifestation of Vajrayogini, embodying the wisdom and enlightened activities of all Buddhas. She is also regarded as the sacred mother of the Buddhas and the compassionate manifestation of the dakinis associated with the Five Buddha Families.

For the benefit of all beings trapped in the cycle of samsara, she is believed to have appeared in countless forms across different times and dimensions.
Achi Buddha Mother is revered as a protector of incomparable compassion. She made a vow to safeguard the Buddha’s teachings and work for the benefit of all sentient beings. She promised the great Drikung master Jigten Sumgön that she would always protect the essential teachings of the Buddha that he spread and that have been preserved through the Drikung Kagyu lineage.
