2025 House Feng Shui, and what are the dos and don'ts for the eight directions of a house

2025 House Feng Shui, and what are the dos and don'ts for the eight directions of a house

I. The Northwest Position

The northwest position corresponds to the Qian trigram, representing heaven and the father figure within the family. It belongs to the metal element and is traditionally known as the "Longevity Mountain," symbolizing nobility, prosperity, and longevity. The northwest wind is piercingly cold. If this mountain is not high or solid enough, it cannot block wind and rain or ward off the cold, which is detrimental to vitality and the development of the household.

Therefore, the northwest position should ideally be high, not low-lying. It should also be free from road or river clashes and harmful influences.

2. The Position of Due North

  • Bagua Position: Kan, representing the middle son, associated with water, commonly referred to as the "Wealth Mountain," governing wisdom and development.
  • Significance: A high position in the due north direction brings good fortune, benefits academic pursuits, enhances wealth, and is also considered the "Backing Mountain of the House," influencing the long-term fortune of the residence. It should not be empty or low-lying, but rather square and high. It is best if surrounded by mountains and forests that gather wind and accumulate energy.

3. The Position of Northeast

  • Bagua Position: Gen, representing the youngest son, associated with earth, commonly referred to as the "Descendant Mountain," governing the development of descendants, also influencing the long-term fortune of the residence. It should be high and substantial, not low-lying. It should be free from unclean objects such as toilets and cesspools, and should not be impacted by roads or rivers.
  • Remedies: If the northeast direction is restrained or if the house has a missing corner in this area, it is advisable to place zodiac objects of the "Ox" (丑牛), such as shepherd boy riding an ox figurines or paintings, to supplement the energy of the northeast direction.

General Notes:

  • The northwest, due north, and northeast directions constitute the northern side, representing the "Backing Mountain of the House." They favor high positions and dislike low-lying ones. Gathering energy brings great fortune, while dispersing energy leads to decline.

4. The East Position

  • Trigram: Zhen, representing the eldest son, belongs to the Wood element. Also known as the Azure Dragon position. The condition of the East can affect the family's academic development and wealth. The East should be slightly higher, which is called "the Azure Dragon raising its head," bringing in wealth and prosperity. However, it should not be too high. The East is where sunlight shines, and being too high would block the sun, which is counterproductive.
  • Conditions:
    • If the East is low-lying and there is water, it is auspicious, which is called "the Azure Dragon obtaining water."
    • However, if it is low-lying without water or with foul or sewage water, it will affect the family's fortune, and be detrimental to health and career.
    • If the East is restrained or the house has a missing corner in the East, it is advisable to place rabbit zodiac objects.

5. The Southeast Position

  • Trigram: Xun, representing the eldest daughter, belongs to the Wood element. Like the East, it is also an Azure Dragon position, promoting literary success. It is favorable to have water and suitable for a water outlet, but it should not be too high, and should be plain and spacious.
  • Conditions:
    • If the Southeast is restrained or the house has a missing corner in the Southeast, it is also advisable to place rabbit zodiac objects.

6. The South Position

  • Trigram: Li, representing the middle daughter, belongs to the Fire element. There should not be high mountains, high ground, or tall buildings in the South. High objects block light, preventing growth and vitality, which is detrimental to family fortune and career.
  • Conditions:
    • Therefore, the South should be flat, and having flowing water is auspicious, as water is a source of wealth and can accumulate wealth.
    • Having roads are also very auspicious, because it helps the flow of wealth and luck.
    • If the South is restrained or the house has a missing corner in the South, it is advisable to place horse zodiac objects, but do not place five horse objects, place four horse objects.

7. Southwest Position

  • Trigram: Kun
  • Represents: Mother, Earth element
  • Significance: This position governs the female members of the household, marital relationships, and family health. It should be spacious and well-lit, avoiding darkness or obstructions from tall objects.
  • Implications of Imbalance: If the southwest is compromised or a corner of the house is missing in this sector, it's advisable to place a sheep (未羊) zodiac object to supplement the energy of the southwest.

8. West Position

  • Trigram: Dui
  • Represents: Youngest daughter, Metal element. Also known as the White Tiger position.
  • Significance: The White Tiger is considered an inauspicious star, yet it also signifies military prowess and authority. This area should be solid but not overly high. An excessively low position indicates a lack of authority and susceptibility to bullying, hindering the success of male members. An excessively high position, known as "White Tiger Raising its Head," can attract disputes, illnesses, and misfortunes.
  • Feng Shui Principle: "Rather have the Green Dragon rise ten thousand feet, than let the White Tiger rise one inch." The west position should be level and solid, ideally resembling a crouching tiger, and should have a pathway. If the west is compromised or a corner of the house is missing in this sector, it's advisable to place a rooster (鸡) zodiac object to supplement the energy of the west.
