Where should I put bagua in my house?
What is Ba Gua?
In Feng Shui, the Bagua (also spelled Pa Kua) is a fundamental concept and tool used to analyze and enhance the flow of energy (Qi) in a space. The term "Bagua" translates to "eight trigrams," which are eight symbols used in Taoist cosmology to represent fundamental principles of reality. These trigrams are arranged around an octagonal shape and each corresponds to different aspects of life and nature.

The Bagua Map
The Bagua map is a tool used to apply these trigrams to physical spaces such as homes, offices, and gardens. This map overlays a floor plan to determine how different areas of a space correspond to different aspects of life. Each section of the Bagua map corresponds to one of the eight life areas:
- Career (Kan) : Located at the bottom center, associated with the element of Water.
- Knowledge and Self-Cultivation (Gen) : Bottom left, associated with the element of Earth.
- Family and Health (Zhen) : Left center, associated with the element of Wood.
- Wealth and Prosperity (Xun) : Top left, associated with the element of Wood.
- Fame and Reputation (Li) : Top center, associated with the element of Fire.
- Love and Relationships (Kun) : Top right, associated with the element of Earth.
- Children and Creativity (Dui) : Right center, associated with the element of Metal.
- Helpful People and Travel (Qian) : Bottom right, associated with the element of Metal.
- Center (Tai Qi) : Represents overall health and balance, associated with the element of Earth.
😍 Black/gray represents yin, while white represents yang. In the center is the Taiji, giving rise to two semicircles, which is a rather rough dichotomy. The left side is yang, and the right side is yin. Using one year to explain (the daily variations of heat and cold are also consistent), it corresponds to the extreme yin giving birth to yang at the winter solstice, and the extreme yang giving birth to yin at the summer solstice, developing clockwise. From the winter solstice to the summer solstice is yang, placed on the left side. From the summer solstice to the winter solstice is yin, placed on the right side.
Application in Feng Shui
To use the Bagua map in Feng Shui, practitioners align the map with the floor plan of a space, typically aligning the bottom of the map with the entrance of the space. Each sector of the map is then analyzed and adjusted to enhance the flow of positive energy and address any imbalances. Adjustments might include the placement of furniture, use of colors, addition of specific elements (like plants, water features, or crystals), and other Feng Shui cures.
"What is the appropriate position for hanging the Bagua map in the home?"
- Place it at the entrance of the living room, facing the main door, to block external negative energies and bad influences.
- If there are harmful energies outside the windows or balcony, you can hang the Bagua mirror facing those negative energies.
- Do not hang it in the master bedroom.
- If there are structural negative influences inside the house, you can hang the Bagua mirror facing them.
