Pixiu , also known as "Bixie" or "Tianlu", is a fierce mythical creature recorded in ancient Chinese texts and folklore. In traditional Chinese feng shui, Pixiu is regarded as an auspicious beast that can turn misfortune into blessings.

From ancient times to the present, both emperors and common people have valued the collection and wearing of Pixiu. According to legend, in addition to its powers of bringing good luck and warding off evil, Pixiu also has the functions of protecting the home, neutralizing negative energy (such as Tai Sui), and enhancing romantic relationships.

There is a long-standing tradition in China of decorating with Pixiu, as it carries rich symbolic meaning. People believe it brings happiness and good fortune.

What is Hetian Jade?

Hetian Jade (also spelled Hotan Jade or Khotan Jade) is one of the most famous and highly valued types of jade in China. It is a type of nephrite jade, known for its fine texture, durability, and deep cultural significance. It comes mainly from the Kunlun Mountains in southern Xinjiang, China, especially near the Hetian (Hotan) region, hence the name.

Common Color Types:

  1. White Jade (Bai Yu) – Highly prized, especially the creamy-white "mutton-fat jade"

  2. Green Jade (Qing Yu) – Ranges from grayish to dark green

  3. Black Jade (Mo Yu) – Often used for carvings, looks black or very dark green

  4. Yellow Jade (Huang Yu) – Rare and beautiful, natural yellow tones

  5. Sugar Jade (Tang Yu) – Brownish skin color caused by natural staining

  6. Spinach Green (or Jasper Green) – Often referred to as bi yu, a deep green nephrite

  • Used in China for over 7,000 years.

  • Symbol of virtue, nobility, and status.

  • Emperors, scholars, and nobles traditionally wore jade as a sign of power and character.

  • In Confucianism, jade represents “benevolence, wisdom, righteousness, propriety, and trust.”

How to Identify Real Hetian Jade:

  1. Look at the luster – Genuine Hetian jade has an oily, warm glow. Fake jade often looks glassy or waxy.

  2. Feel it – Real jade feels smooth, dense, and slightly warm in hand.

  3. Tap it – Real jade produces a crisp, musical sound; fakes sound dull or harsh.

  4. Examine under magnification – Real nephrite shows a fibrous interlocking texture.
